Ralph Stanley, April 1994, 109-9-16A, Great American Music Hall. American bluegrass artist, known for his distinctive singing and banjo playing. Formed the Stanley Brothers with his brother Carter in 1946 and brought the high lonesome sound of rural southwestern Virginia to the bluegrass world. Stanley won a 2002 Grammy Award in the category of Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his performance of "Oh, Death" in the film "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?"
